The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B), under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, is in plans to develop a Communications Universityin India. The University will work as an umbrella body for films, media and animation sectors.
I&B ministry has aimed to set up the university within three years, informed sources.
Communications University to Standardize Education
The soon-to-be set up Communications University will act as an education standardizing body for journalism, films, animation, media and visual effects sectors.
At present, majority of education in these sectors is provided by private institutions and hence has not yet been standardized.
Other Initiatives: The Ministry also plans to set up initiatives like online film certification and creation of a single window clearance mechanism for film shootings in the country.
