What is new in JEE Main Result 2020?

The result for JEE Main 2020 will no more provide the candidate’s marks obtained. Thus, from last year, admission to the JEE Main colleges and selection for JEE Advanced won’t be based on the candidate’s overall and sectional marks. National Testing Agency will be releasing percentile scores i.e. JEE Main overall percentile and sectional percentile. Since the test will be held in multiple sessions, therefore, to prepare the merit list and for the usage of the normalization process, the percentile will be given in place of marks.

How is JEE Main Result 2020 Calculated?

As per the JEE Main marking scheme, for every correct answer, candidates will be awarded 4 marks while for every wrong answer, 1 mark will be deducted. Therefore, the final marks will be calculated by subtracting the total positive marks minus the total negative marks. For the convenience of candidates, the formula to calculate the JEE Main marks is provided below –

Total Positive Marks (i.e. Number of correct answer x 4) – Total Negative Marks i.e. (Number of wrong answers x 4) = JEE Main Total Score

Note: The total marks for JEE Main Paper 1 was 360 while for JEE Main Paper 2 was 390.

As mentioned earlier, the test will be held in multiple sessions and twice a year, therefore a normalization process will be followed to finalize the JEE Main result 2020. For each session, there will be a top scorer, who will be the 100 percentile scorer. The final JEE Main Merit List will be prepared after implying the JEE Main Normalization process.
