About UCEED 2018

UCEED 2018 – Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design 2018 will be conducted by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay under the guidance of the UCEED Admissions Committee 2018. It was for the first time in the year 2015 that IIT Bombay has introduced a Bachelor of Design programme. This is the 4th year of admission to IIT Bombay's B.Design programme through UCEED 2018.

UCEED 2018 will be conducted for the admission into 4 years Bachelor of Design (B. Des.) programme in any of the given below institutes:

  • Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB)
  • Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG)
  • Indian Institute of Information Technology Design and Manufacturing Jabalpur (IIITDMJ)

Other Institutes accepting UCEED 2018 Score

Last year qualified candidates were admitted to the B. Des programmes at IIT Bombay and IIITDM Jabalpur. Moreover, few more institutes will also admit students to their B. Des programmes through UCEED and they are:

  • UPES University: UCEED Merit is also used by UPES University for admission into  Bachelors of Design (B. Des) Programme.
  • IIT Guwahati will accept admission for B.Design course based on UCEED 2018 score and students need not appear in JEE Main for that.

UCEED 2018 Eligibility criteria

A candidate, including a foreign national, must fulfil each and every one of the following three criteria to appear in UCEED 2018.

  • Age Limit: Candidate should have been born on or after 1 October 1998, however, relaxation of 5 years is given to the students belonging to SC, ST or PwD category i.e. 1 October 1993.
  • Academic Qualification: Indian/ Foreign candidates applying for UCEED should have passed their Class 12 or equivalent examination in 2017 OR will appear in 2018. Students from any stream that is commerce, arts, science can apply for the course.

UCEED Number of attempts: Any candidate is eligible for only two consecutive attempts of the UCEED Exam. UCEED score is valid for one year, and only for admissions in the corresponding academic year.

UCEED 2018 Application form and Admit Card

Candidates are required to fill the UCEED Application Form online for the undergraduate course accessible to all the candidates until 10 November 2017. The entire process of making an application for admission in various courses during the academic session 2018-19 is ONLINE. Only eligible candidates for UCEED 2018 will be able to download the UCEED Admit Card 2018, whose application is complete in all aspects. UCEED Admit Card 2018 will be issued and available online from 25 December 2017, after 5:00 PM. Applicants can download their hall ticket/ admit card from the link given below.

UCEED 2018 Fees

UCEED application fees are different as per the category. The candidates belonging to the respective categories must pay their application fee accordingly. The fee has to be paid through online mode only that is Credit Card/ Debit Card/ Net Banking.

If an applicant has applied after the due date i.e. 10 November 2017, he/she will have to submit their application along with the additional late fee of Rs.500 (plus GST) before the final due date i.e. 17 November 2017.

Annual fee structure at the different IITs will be disclosed soon before the date of admissions but candidates can take the idea from the previous year fee structure of the B.Desing course.

UCEED 2018 Result and Counselling

The performance of the candidate in UCEED 2018 will make them eligible for admission to the B.Des Program in the accepting institutes as well as IITs. The candidates are suggested to prepare for the UCEED through the previous year question papers. The link to get the UCEED Question Paper and the Answer Key is given below.

  • In the case of any discrepancy, same shall be addressed to uceed@iitb.ac.in, on or before last week of January 2018.

UCEED Result & Rank Lists

  • UCEED 2018 Results will be declared on 18 February 2018.
  • Rank lists will be prepared based on the total marks in UCEED 2018.
  • No separate category-wise rank lists will be prepared. However, cut-off marks for each category will be mentioned in the rank list.

Students admitted to the B. Des programme will not be eligible for branch change to any other undergraduate programmes offered by IIT Bombay at any time during the entire duration of the programme.

UCEED 2018 Exam pattern

  • Duration of Exam: 3 hours
  • Mode of Exam: Computer-based Test.
  • Medium of Exam: English
  • Total Marks: 300 marks
  • UCEED Question Paper will consist of 3 sections.
  • The paper will be held in two sessions: 
    • Session 1: 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM
    • Session 2: 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM (if any) This session will be conducted only if there is some technical problem in session one. This will be reserve session only for the candidates of the affected centres.
  • No. of Sections: The question paper will consist of 3 section.
  • The question paper will contain a total of 80 questions distributed among the 6 topics provided in the syllabus.
  • Marking Schemes:  All 3 sections will have different marking scheme.

UCEED Syllabus 2018

The Questions in the Exam will be asked on the following topics

Visualisation and Spatial Ability
Pictorial and diagrammatic questions to test, understanding of transformation and/or manipulation of 2D shapes and 3D objects and their spatial relationships, knowledge of practical and everyday mechanical and scientific concepts

Observation and Design Sensitivity
Ability to detect concealed properties in ordinary things, people, situations, and events, and thinking critically about them. Applying attention to certain details, analysing, reasoning, classifying, inferring and predicting. Ability to discern subtle differences in visual properties and aesthetic outcomes.

Environmental and Social Awareness
General awareness of environmental factors such as climate, population, water, vegetation, pollution, weather, natural resources etc., and their implications on the design of products, images, infrastructure and environment. Awareness of social and cultural connection with the design, history of the designed artefact, and socially responsible and environmentally sustainable design responses. History of art, sculpture and literature.

Analytical and Logical Reasoning
Ability to look at information, be it qualitative or quantitative in nature and discern patterns within the information. Ability to weigh opinions, arguments or solutions against appropriate criteria. Ability to check for hidden bias or hidden assumptions and whether evidence and argument support conclusions. Ability to use logic and structured thinking to deduce from a short passage, which of a number of statements is the most accurate response to a posed question. Data Interpretation, brainteasers, and patterns.

Language and Creativity

Ability to understand and use Standard English. Reading comprehension, knowledge of English grammar such as sentence structure and usage, the use of tenses, verb patterns, articles, and active and passive constructions etc., and vocabulary skills. Ability to think creatively in terms of alternatives, ability to distinguish innovative options and think out of the box

Design Thinking and Problem-Solving
Ability to use visual analogies, metaphors, signs and symbols. Ability to understand complexity, identify the problem, generate alternatives, evaluate options and select solutions.

UCEED 2018 Important details

UCEED 2018 will be conducted in the below mentioned 20 cities in India. Candidates should compulsorily choose 3 cities of their choice, in the order of preference, at the time of online registration.
