About UCEED 2017

UCEED 2017 – Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design 2017 will be conducted by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay under the guidance of the UCEED Admissions Committee 2017. It was for the first time in the year 2015 that IIT Bombay has introduced a Bachelor of Design programme. This is the 3rd year of admission to IIT Bombay's B.Design programme through UCEED 2017.

There will be 105 seats subdivided on the basis of the percentage of reservation in IITB, IITG and IITDMJ. Check the total number of seats in B.Des courses in each of the college below:

Other Institutes accepting UCEED Score

Last year qualified candidates were admitted to the B. Des programmes at IIT Bombay and IIITDM Jabalpur. Moreover, few more institutes will also admit students to their B. Des programmes through UCEED and they are:

  • UPES University: UCEED Merit is also used by UPES University for admission into  Bachelors of Design (B. Des) Programme.
  • IIT Guwahati will accept admission for B.Design course based on UCEED 2017 score and students need not appear in JEE Main for that.

UCEED 2017 Eligibility criteria

A candidate, including a foreign national, must fulfil each and every one of the following three criteria to appear in UCEED 2017.

  • Age Limit: Candidate should have been born on or after October 1, 1997,however, relaxation of 5 years is given to the students belonging to SC, ST or PwD category i.e. October 1, 1992.
  • Academic Qualification: Indian/Foreign candidates applying for UCEED should have passed their Class 12 or equivalent examination in 2016 OR will appear in 2017. Students from any stream that is commerce, arts, science can apply for the course.
  • UCEED Number of attempts: Any candidate is eligible for only two consecutive attempts of the UCEED Exam. UCEED score is valid for one year, and only for admissions in the corresponding academic year.

UCEED 2017 Application form and Admit Card

Candidates are required to fill the UCEED Application Form online for the Undergraduate course accessible to all the candidates until November 11,2016. The entire process of making an application for admission in various courses during the academic session 2017-18 is ONLINE. UCEED Admit Card 2017

Only eligible candidates for UCEED 2017 will be able too download the UCEED Admit Card 2017, whose application is complete in all aspects. UCEED Admit Card 2017 will be issued and availab;e online from December 26, 2017, after 5:00 PM, Applicants can download their hall ticket/admit card from the libk given below.

Late Application Fee

If an applicant has applied after the due date i.e. November 11, 2016, he/she will have to submit their application along with the additional late fee of Rs 500 before the final due date i.e. November 18 November 20, 2016.

Annual fee structure at the different IITs  will be disclosed soon before the date of admissions but candidates can take the idea from the previous year fee structure of the B.Desing course.

UCEED 2017 Result and Counselling

The performance of the candidate in UCEED 2017 will make them eligible for admission to the B.Des Program in the accepting institutes as well as IITs.

UCEED Question Paper and Answer Key

  • UCEED Question Paper and Answer Key will be uploaded on the UCEED 2017 online portal on January 28, 2017.
  • In the case of any discrepancy, same shall be addressed to uceed@iitb.ac.in, on or before January 31, 2017.

UCEED Result & Rank Lists

  • UCEED 2017 Results will be declared on February 24, 2017.
  • Rank lists will be prepared based on the total marks in UCEED 2017.
  • No separate category-wise rank lists will be prepared. However, cut-off marks for each category will be mentioned in the rank list.

Students admitted to the B. Des programme will not be eligible for branch change to any other undergraduate programmes offered by IIT Bombay at any time during the entire duration of the programme.

UCEED 2017 Exam pattern

  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Medium: English
  • Total Marks: 300 marks
  • The paper will be held in two sessions: 
    • Session 1: 10 am to 1 pm
    • Session 2: 2 PM to 5 PM (if any)
  • Sections: The question paper will consist of 3 section
  • The question paper will contain a total of 80 questions distributed among the 6 topics provided in the syllabus.
  • Negative Marking: All 3 sections will have NEGATIVE marking.

UCEED Syllabus 2017

The Questions in the Exam will be asked on the following topics

  • Visualization and Spatial Ability
    Pictorial and diagrammatic questions to test, understanding of transformation and/or manipulation of 2D shapes and 3D objects and their spatial relationships, knowledge of practical and everyday mechanical and scientific concepts
  • Observation and Design Sensitivity
    Ability to detect concealed properties in ordinary things, people, situations, and events, and thinking critically about them. Applying attention to certain details, analysing, reasoning, classifying, inferring and predicting. Ability to discern subtle differences in visual properties and aesthetic outcomes.
  • Environmental and Social Awareness
    General awareness of environmental factors such as climate, population, water, vegetation, pollution, weather, natural resources etc., and their implications on the design of products, images, infrastructure and environment. Awareness of social and cultural connection with the design, history of the designed artefact, and socially responsible and environmentally sustainable design responses. History of art, sculpture and literature.
  • Analytical and Logical Reasoning
    Ability to look at information, be it qualitative or quantitative in nature and discern patterns within the information. Ability to weigh opinions, arguments or solutions against appropriate criteria. Ability to check for hidden bias or hidden assumptions and whether evidence and argument support conclusions. Ability to use logic and structured thinking to deduce from a short passage, which of a number of statements is the most accurate response to a posed question. Data Interpretation, brainteasers, and patterns.
  • Language and Creativity
    Ability to understand and use Standard English. Reading comprehension, knowledge of English grammar such as sentence structure and usage, the use of tenses, verb patterns, articles, and active and passive constructions etc., and vocabulary skills. Ability to think creatively in terms of alternatives, ability to distinguish innovative options and think out of the box
  • Design Thinking and Problem-Solving
    Ability to use visual analogies, metaphors, signs and symbols. Ability to understand complexity, identify the problem, generate alternatives, evaluate options and select solutions.
