AFCAT 2/2018 for July 2019 Batch- Admit Card, Notification, Exam Pattern

AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test) is an Indian Airforce exam that is taken after graduation for selection into Indian Air Force in Flying Branch and Ground Branch (Technical and Non-Technical). The exam for AFCAT 2 2018 has been conducted on 18 and 19 August 2018. AFCAT 2018 online Applications for Female/Male Indian Citizens as per the Citizenship Act 1955 for the air force jobs/ branches started from 16 June to 15 July 2018. The applications are invited to the following branches. The candidates can fill the applications for the branches according to their eligibility.

• Flying Branch:  The person is trained as a Fighter pilot or a Helicopter pilot or a Transport pilot.
• Ground Branch: The person is for Managing human and material resources.
• Technical Branch: In charge of some of the most sophisticated equipment in the Indian Air Force.

NOTE - The candidates registering for AFCAT entry will have to pay an examination fee of Rs. 250. However, the candidates registering for Meteorology entry and NCC special entry are not required to pay any amount.

Types of Air Force Commission

The candidates on qualifying AFCAT and other stages of the process will either get a permanent commission or a short service commission.

• Permanent Commission (For Males Only): Candidates joining on the post of Permanent Commission Officers would continue to serve until the age of superannuation.

• Short Service Commission (For Males & Females Both):
  • The engagement period of SSC Flying Branch is 14 years.
  • The Initial tenure of Short Service Commission Officers in Technical and Ground Duty Branches is 10 years.

An extension of 4 years may be granted subject to willingness, requirements, and availability of vacancies.

Candidates can join Indian Air Force after class 12 by appearing in NDA Entrance Exam which is held twice in a year. If the candidate is selected for Indian Air Force through NDA then they will undergo a three-year training at National Defence Academy at Khadakwasla near Pune, Maharashtra.  

After that, they will have to complete a specialized training at one of the training institutions. After the necessary training, the students are commissioned as Permanent Commission in Indian Air Force and then they are posted as Pilots at any of Indian Air Force Stations.

AFCAT 02/2018 Eligibility Criteria for Flying/ Technical & Ground Duty Branch

Permanent body tattoos are only permitted on inner face of the forearm. Permanent body tattoos on any other part of the body are not acceptable. The candidate should not have been arrested, convicted or prosecuted on criminal charges.

The eligibility criteria are separately given as per the branches. Therefore, the candidates are suggested to ensure their eligibility criteria required for the branch they are applying before filling up the application form.

AFCAT 02/2018 General Eligibility for Flying Branch

Nationality: The required Nationality of the Applicants should be Indian.

Marital Status: Single

• Candidates below 25 years of age must be unmarried at the time of commencement of course.
• Married candidates above 25 years of age are eligible to apply but during training period they will neither be provided married accommodation nor can they live out with family

Gender: In the case of SSC Entry both Male and Females can apply.

Age: 

• Flying Branch through AFCAT and NCC Special Entry: 20 to 24 years as on 01 July 2019 i.e. born between 02 July 1995 to 01 July 1999 (both dates inclusive).
• Ground Duty (Technical & Non-technical) Branch: 20 to 26 years as on 01 July 2019 i.e. born between 02 July 1993 to 01 July 1999 (both dates inclusive).
• Upper age limit for Candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot Licence issued by DGCA (India) is relaxable up to 26 years .i.e. born between 02 July 1993 to 01 July 1999 (both dates inclusive).

Educational Qualifications: Candidate must be a Graduate i.e. Minimum three-year degree course in any discipline from a recognized University. 

• Candidates must have attained minimum 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together
• Candidates must have passed Maths and Physics at Class 12 level OR BE / B Tech degree (Four-year course) from a recognized University with minimum 60% marks in aggregate in all papers put together

Physical Standards

• Height - Minimum height 162.5 cms.
• Leg Length- Minimum 99 cms Maximum 120 cms
• Thigh Length- Maximum 64 cms
• Sitting Height- Minimum- 81.5 cms Maximum 96 cms
• Weight and Chest are required to be well proportioned. Minimum expansion 5 cms. (Applicable only for males)

• Visual Standards: Minimum Visual Acuity 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in other correctable to 6/6 only for Hypermetropia.

Mode of Entry for AFCAT 02/2018 Flying Branch

As a Graduate/ Engineer, the candidates enter Flying branch through the Air Force Academy. The three modes of entry for Graduates/ Engineers to join the Flying branch are given below:

CDSE (Combined Defence Services Examination) (Only for male candidates)

• The male candidate who enters this mode gets the Permanent Commission.

NCC Special Entry (Only for male candidates): The male candidate an Air Wing Senior Division ’C’ Certificate holder of the National Cadet Corps, can apply to the Flying Branch of the Indian Air Force.

• A candidate who enters this mode gets Permanent Commission.

SSC Entry (For both male and female candidates)
The candidate has to apply through AFCAT for Short Service Commission (SSC) in the Flying Branch. 

• Short Service Commission in Flying branch is for 14 years with no further extension

AFCAT 02/2018 General Eligibility for Technical Branch

Age:

• Between 20 years and 26 years at the commencement of the course.
• Applicants, age should be lying between 2 July 1993 to 1 July 1999 (not before not after)

Education Qualification

Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics): 

• Candidates applying for AE (L) branch would be eligible if they have undergone any one of the below mentioned Educational Qualification
• a minimum of four-year degree qualification from a recognized University
• cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India)
• cleared Sections A and B of Aeronautical Society of India
• cleared Sections A and B  of Graduate membership examination of the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies

Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical): 

• Candidates applying for AE (M) branch would be eligible if they have undergone if they have undergone any one of the below mentioned Educational Qualification:
• A minimum of four-year degree qualification from a recognized University
• Cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India)
• Cleared Sections A and B examination of Aeronautical Society of India by actual studies.

Essential Subjects: Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics): Candidates applying for AE (L) branch would be eligible if they have studied at least eight subjects out of the eighteen subjects listed below:

Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical): Candidates applying for AE (M) branch would be eligible if they have studied at least eight subjects out of the eighteen subjects listed below.

AFCAT 02/2018 Eligibility Criteria for Candidates appearing in final year/semester examinations

The candidates are required to fulfil the following conditions:

• Candidates should not have any present backlog.
• When the candidates apply online or at the time of SSB they should have secured a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in all papers till the last semester/year for which results have been declared.
• Candidates are required to produce provisional/ original degree certificate issued by University.

Candidates not Eligible to Apply for AFCAT 02/2018

• Candidates who have failed the Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PABT) in an earlier attempt OR A Flight Cadet suspended from flying training at Air Force Academy are not eligible to apply.
• Those candidates who have been debarred by the Ministry of Defence from holding any type of commission in Defence Services are NOT eligible for admission to AFCAT examination and if admitted, their candidature will be cancelled.

The candidates can apply Online for AFCAT 2018 twice in the year as the application forms will be available two times. There is no offline application process. The application process started from 16 June 2018 to 15 July 2018. While filling the application form, the candidates have to note down Registration number for future correspondence.

In case the candidates are awarded grades/ CGPA instead of marks, the conversion of grades/ CGPA to percentage of marks would be based on the procedure certified by the University from where they have obtained the degree

Documents required for filling AFCAT 2018 Online Application

• Matriculation & other educational certificates
• One recent Passport size photograph of (size 10 to 50 KB) should be saved to the computer for uploading.
• Candidates are required to maintain their unique E-Mail ID active throughout the selection process

Submission of the Application Form

The candidates who have successfully filled the application form should check the details filled by them in the application form and then make the final submission. The candidates should know that once the application form gets submitted, the candidates will not be able to make the changes in the form. 

AFCAT Admit Card 02/2018

Candidates must carry AFCAT Admit Card and a valid photo identity card such as passport, driving license, voter identity card, college identity card or any other valid photo identity proof while reporting for Air Force Common Admission Test and for SSB Interview at Air Force Selection Board. The Indian Air Force select the candidates for Indian Air Force (IAF) in two stages mentioned below. The candidates should check the selection procedure to join the Indian Air Force as Commissioned Officers in Flying, Technical and Ground Duty Branch. The two of the stages through which the IAF admits the candidates are thoroughly mentioned below.

• Written Test
• Screening Test/ Psychological Test

IAF Selection Process 2018 for Officers in Flying, Technical and Ground Duty Branch

All applicants whose applications are submitted by due date are called for Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) and Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT) (applicable only for candidates applying for the technical branch) at one of the examination centres. The shortlisted candidates on the basis of AFCAT 2018 will be called for further testing at any one of the selection boards. The list of the selection boards is given below.

Round 1:

• The candidates will undergo few tests on the first day such as Intelligence Test along with other tests.
• Stage-I test is a screening test and only those who qualify would undergo subsequent testing.
• All Stage-I qualified candidates would be subjected to document check to ascertain their eligibility for the branches applied for.
• The candidates who either do not qualify for Stage I testing or do not meet the eligibility criteria would be sent back on the first day itself.

Round 2

• For Technical & Ground: The selected candidates will have to undergo a Psychological Test, Group Tests and Interview will be conducted on subsequent days (Five Days).
• For Flying Branch: The selected candidates will have to undergo Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PABT).

Round 3:

• Medical Examination will be conducted at AFCME, New Delhi or IAM Bengaluru-based on the recommendations at AFSB. If in case, the candidate fails to turn up on the allotted date for medicals, it could lead to cancellation of candidature.
• Reservation: 10% of the vacancies are reserved for NCC Air Wing “C” Certificate Holders in Technical and Ground Duty Branches. No compensation will be paid in respect of any injury sustained during the testing at AFSB.

Training at Air Force Academy

• Training is scheduled to commence on the given schedule for all courses.
• The duration of training for Flying and Technical Branches is 74 weeks and that of Ground Duty Branches is 52 weeks at Air Force Training Establishments. The training will commence in the first week of July 2019.

• The exam will be of two hours duration and of 100 marks.
• The question paper will consist of the questions based on the following sections:
  • Verbal Ability
  • Numerical Ability
  • Reasoning
  • General Awareness
  • Military Aptitude

Duration of the Exam

• AFCAT Exam:  The AFCAT Exam will be of two hours duration and will contain multiple choice questions on the sections of the questions mentioned above.
• EKT Exam: TheEKT Exam would be for 45 minutes which will be conducted immediately after AFCAT

Air Force Jobs Pay and Allowances

• Flying Officers will be paid Rs. 56,100 to Rs 1,10,700 + Grade Pay + Military Service Pay+ Dearness Allowance+Kit Maintenance Allowance+Transport Allowance as per Defence Matrix.
• Once the training is successfully completed, the newly appointed Flying Officers would be entitled to approximate gross monthly emoluments in different branches including Transport Allowance of major cities as follows:

Note: Flight cadets shall receive a fixed stipend of Rs 56,100/- per month for the period of training.

Other Allowance offered in Air Force

• Benefits - Officer will also be provided Furnished Accommodation, Comprehensive Medical Cover for self and dependants, Leave Travel Concession, Leave (60 days Annual and 20 days Casual) subject to service exigency, the supply of entitled rations, canteen & Officers’ Mess facilities and much more.
• Insurance - The Serving officers are entitled to get an insurance coverage amounting to 75 Lakh (on contribution) as well as Additional coverage amounting to Rs. 10 Lacs (on contribution) is provided to Flying Branch Officers.
• Travel Allowance - Travelling Allowance by the shortest route for AC-III Tier Mail/ Express Trains to and fro for the journey from the place of Call Up or departure (whichever is nearer) is admissible. For all other modes of travel, TA will be admissible as per the government authorized rules.
