About IIST Admission

IIST Counselling: Candidates that have been allotted seat in Round 1 of IIST Counselling can now report at ISRO centres from 2 to 3 July 2018. Seat matrix for Round 1 of Counselling in IIST was released online on 29 June 2018 along with seat allotment result. Online fee payment and downloading of the provisional letter was available between 30 June to 1 July 2018. Candidates who were not allotted seats in Round 1 will have to wait for the display of vacant seats for IIST Counselling Round 2, to commence from 3 July 2018. Admission in IIST in B.Tech and Dual Degree programme is based on JEE Advanced score. Only those students are eligible to apply for IIST who qualify for JEE advanced and also appear in the exam. IIST invites admission for the undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and post-doctoral levels in areas with a special focus in space sciences, space technology, and space applications.

 The candidates can fill their choice regarding the branch of study within the given dates.

  • IIST was established in 2007 and functions as an autonomous body under the Department of Space, Government of India. Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology is Asia’s first Space Institute and a ‘Deemed to be University’.
  • It is the first institute in the world to offer the complete range of undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral programmes with specific focus on technology, space science and applications.

IIST Admission after 12th: Courses Offered 

The IIST offers the B.Tech Course with specialization in following subjects

  • B.Tech. (Aerospace Engineering) 
    • It is a four-year undergraduate degree programme oriented towards the needs of space technology,
    • It has significant overlap with Mechanical Engineering, including Mechanical Design and Manufacturing Sciences, and Space Dynamics
  • B.Tech (Avionics)
    • It is a four-year undergraduate degree programme
    • It is comprising of subjects of study in Communications Engineering and Electronics programmes. In addition to the study of Advanced Electronics in Digital Communication, Control Systems and Computer Systems used in Aerospace Systems.
  • 5-Year Dual Degree (B.Tech. + M.S./M.Tech.) 
    • It is a 5-year Dual degree programme
    • leads to B.Tech. Degree in Engineering Physics and any of the following Post-Graduatedegreespecialisations: 
      • M.S. (Astronomy & Astrophysics)
      • M.S. (Earth System Science)
      • M.S. (Solid State Physics)
      • M.Tech. (Optical Engineering)

IIST Admission Eligibility criteria

  • Citizenship: Indian Citizens and NRI can apply
  • Date of Birth/ Age: The age criteria for the different category is given below. Candidates should ensure that they fulfil the age criteria before applying.

IIST Eligibility for Qualifying Examination

The candidates need to fulfil the eligibility for qualifying examination. The candidates must ensure that they meet the eligibility criteria before applying for admission in IIST.

The candidates must have obtained the minimum qualifying marks in Class 12 or equivalent examination to get admission in IIST. The minimum qualifying marks are different for each category which is given below

Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) 

 

  • The qualifying examination can be considered any one of the following mentioned below. Candidates are advised to read the below list of qualifying examination carefully.
    • The final examination of Class 12 conducted by any recognized Central/State Board, such as CBSE New Delhi or ISCE New Delhi, etc. would be considered as a qualifying examination.
    • Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognized Board/University.
    • The final exam of the two-year course at the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy (NDA).
    • The candidate passed the higher secondary examination from the vocational stream.
    • Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.
    • Any Public School/University/Board Examination in India or any foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the AIU.
    • General Certificate of Education examination from (London / Cambridge /Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
    • High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
    • In case the qualifying examination is not a public examination, the candidate must have passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) examination at an earlier level.

The candidate desirous to take admission in B.Tech courses at IIST should have taken Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) in Class 12 or equivalent

Marks required in JEE Main & JEE Advanced 2018 for IIST Admission


For undertaking B.Tech Programmes in IIST the candidate must appear for JEE Main 2018 conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi to qualify themselves to appear for JEE Advanced 2018 conducted by IITs.The minimum marks to be secured by the candidate in JEE Advanced 2018 are

IIST Admission Application form and Admit Card

IIST admission process started from 5 June 2018. The candidates interested in pursuing the BTech and Dual degree courses could apply online by following the link below. The candidates should know that the application form can only be made through online mode. There is no procedure to fill the offline application. The last date to fill the application form of IIST was 15 June 2018. To fill the application form, the candidates need their JEE Main 2018 Roll Number and JEE Advanced 2018 Roll Number and valid e-mail id.

 

IIST Application Process 2018 - Steps to Follow

The application process has now ended. To apply online, the candidates are suggested to  follow the steps given below.

  • STEP 1: Candidates have to fill in their valid JEE Main Roll Number, JEE Advanced Roll Number, Date of Birth. 
  • STEP 2: Fill the required information in Online Application Form. It is mandatory to choose any of the two designated banks (State Bank of India or Union Bank of India for examination fee payment. 
  • STEP 3: Note down the IIST Registration Number. After that print on an A4 size paper: Landscape Orientation the Bank Challan by clicking 'Get Challan' button. This challan has to be used to remit examination fee in any branch of the chosen bank, on the next working day onwards, after the date of successful completion of Online Registration. The Registration fee is non-refundable.
  • STEP 4: The candidates have to enter the Bank Transaction Details using Candidate Login link.
  • STEP 5: Scan and upload the Institute's Copy of challan using Candidate Login link.

The NRI candidates need to upload the scanned copy of the Demand Draft drawn in favour of “The Registrar, IIST” payable at Thiruvananthapuram, India. They must write their name and Registration number on the back side of the Demand Draft.

View Application Status

Once the Application Form has been filled, and all formalities have been done, candidates can check their Application status. Candidates need to enter the IIST Registration No. and Password to check the status.

Payment of IIST Application Fee

  • The payment can be made in any of the branches of State Bank of India or Union Bank of India.
  • After completion of online registration, the candidates need to make the payment on the next working day using the Bank Challan.
  • The name and registration number must be written on the back side of the Demand Draft by NRI candidates.
  • The candidates have to send the Demand Draft along with institute copy of “NRI Payment form” by post to the following address:

Submission of IIST Application Form

Candidates are suggested to check the details of the application form before the final submission because once the application process then the candidates will not be able to do any changes. The candidates do not need to send any hard copy of the duly filled in IIST Application Form to the authority. Candidates have to submit their Application Form through Online mode only. However, candidates are requested to take a print out of the duly filled in Application Form for future use.

IIST Admission Result and Counselling

IIST Admission Rank list is generated only for those candidates who register online for admission to IIST and satisfy all the eligibility criteria. IIST Admission Rank List is based on candidates’ position in the All-India Rank list (including category rank) prepared and published by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). 

IIST Counselling Process 2018
IIST Counselling Process 2018 began from 22 May 2018 for both Common Rank List and for SC/ST/OBC/PD Rank List. The Venus of IIST counselling is Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad. The candidates must keep in mind the following points:

  • The eligible candidates who fulfil all the criteria and are called for the counselling process must be physically present with all their original documents at the counselling venue with any of their parents.
  • The candidates must write their preference/choice of branch of study in their order of preference. The preference once was written cannot be changed further.
  • During the counselling process, the eligible candidates are given the confirmed seat according to their JEE Main All India Rank 2018. Those candidates who get a confirmed seat must show their original certificates at the counselling centre. If the candidates do not get a confirmed seat according to their choice or preference, they will be given a waiting list number for heir higher preferred branch.
  • After all the available seats are filled, the remaining candidates can find their name in the wait-list which will be published in IIST official website after two days of the counselling Process.
  • At the time of wait-list seat distribution, if any candidate denies form accepting the seat offered to them in any branch of his/her preference/choice made at the time of counselling, they will not be considered further for taking admission at any branch/seat.
