NTSE Scholarship for Indian Students Studying Abroad


NTSE Scholarship 2017 for Indian students studying abroad in Class 10 is given to one thousand students. It is one of the most prestigious exams in India. National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is conducted every year at two levels: Stage – I (State level) and Stage –II (National level), however, the students studying abroad are exempted from State Level Stage – I of NTS Examination as per the NTS Scheme. NTSE Scholarship program is a national-level scholarship program in India which is conducted to identify and recognise the students with high intellect and academic talent. 

The scheme is open to students of Indian nationality. Students studying in Class 10 are eligible to appear for the selection process. As it is organised by an official body NCERT. NTSE Scholarship for Class10 Indian students studying abroad

The students are awarded about one thousand of the Scholarship for different stages of the education. These students receive NTSE Scholarship from Class 11th till their PhD studies. It is merit based scholarship and not a means based scholarship. The scholarships are awarded for different stages of education as follows:

  • Scholarship of Rs.1250 per month for Class 11th to 12th.
  • Scholarship of Rs.2000 per month for Undergraduates and Post – graduates
  • Scholarship Amount for PhD is fixed in accordance with UGC standards.

NTSE Scholarship Eligibility Criteria (Indian National Studying Abroad)

The candidates are required to check whether they meet the eligibility criteria or not before applying for the NTSE Scheme. The eligibility criteria for the NTSE Scholarship is given below:

  • Nationality: A candidate should be Indian national. The NTSE Scholarship shall be paid to the candidates for pursuing studies in India only.
  • Qualifying Marks: The General category students need to secure 40% in each paper and SC/ST or PH category student need 32% in each paper.
  • The Reservation for the NTSE Scheme is categorised as follows
    • 15% for SC Category students
    • 7.5% for ST Category students
    • 3% for Physically Challenged students

NTSE Scholarship Application Process for Indian Students Studying Abroad

The brochure of the NTSE is available on the official website of NCERT. Candidates are advised to download the NTSE brochure of this year and read it carefully before sending the application for the scheme.

The instruction to be followed while filling the application form is given below:

  •  Candidates need to apply online from the official website of NCERT.
  • Send the application along with photocopy of previous year mark sheet by post 

Submission of NTSE Scholarship Stage -II Application Form

The candidates are advised to check the duly filled in application form before submission. It is a responsibility of a candidate to keep at least two copies of Application Form for future reference. Candidates are required to send the application form along with a photocopy of the previous year mark sheet by post to the address given below

Selection Process for NTSE Scholarship 

The selection process for NTSE Scholarship for Indian nationals is given below:

  • Written examination: The written examination comprised the Science Aptitude Test and an Essay on a given scientific theme.
  • Project report: The candidates are required to submit the project report at the time of the written examination
  • Interview

NTSE Scholarship Stage- 2 Exam Pattern

The NTSE Stage- II Exam consist of 200 question carries one mark each in which 180 minutes allotted to the candidates. The Exam pattern for Stage- II with Paper, the number of question to be asked in each test and the time duration for each paper is given below:

*The candidates must note that the language test is only a qualifying exam and the marks scored by the candidates in this test will not be included in the final merit list. 

Negative Marking: Candidates are advised to be careful while choosing the answer as there will be negative marking in each paper. 1/3rd marks will be deducted for each wrong answers. There will no negative marking for the questions left unattempted by the candidates.
